CENTA Teaching Professionals’ Olympiad (TPO) is a first-of-its-kind national competition to reward, recognize and celebrate teachers and also the first step towards the CENTA Certificates. Based on the tremendous response for the first two editions, the third edition TPO 2017 is being held in 28 cities across India and an additional centre in Dubai, with 14 subject tracks plus three Challenger tracks offered! TPO 2017 is supported by The Hindu.

CENTA Standards

TPO 2017 is based on the Centre for Teacher Accreditation (CENTA) Standards, a set of well-defined competencies for teachers. TPO will cover a subset of the CENTA Standards and candidates can go through the practical assessment post the TPO to attain the full CENTA Certificates.

Centre for Teacher Accreditation (CENTA) offers Level 1, 2 and 3 Certificates for new, experienced and senior teachers respectively, aiming to create a career path and opportunities for teachers, and serving as a pointer for schools in their recruiting and professional development efforts. TPO is common for teachers of all experience levels.

TPO Challenger

TPO Challenger is an in-depth test of subject expertise as well as pedagogical practice in the context of the particular subject, and is an additional testing to the TPO. TPO Challenger is meant for teachers who have deep interest in their subject. After the tremendous response the Challenger track received last year, this year, we are offering TPO Challenger in three subject tracks, Middle School English, Middle School Maths and Middle School Science with plans of adding other subject tracks in future years. CENTA’s ‘Subject Expertise micro-credential’ which is one part of the CENTA Certificate, can now be attained through TPO-Challenger!

TPO Challenger will run from 3:00 to 6:45 P.M. on the same day as the TPO (December 9th) and will be available in all TPO centres. TPO Challenger is a three and a half hour test with a fifteen minute break in-between.

  • 3 to 5 P.M. : Same test as the regular TPO in the chosen subject track
  • 5 to 5:15 P.M. : Break
  • 5:15 to 6:45 P.M. : In-depth test for Challenger participants

TPO Challenger test registration fee is Rs. 950 (this includes registration fee for the 'TPO' as well as registration fee for the 'Challenger' test). PLEASE DO NOT register for both the main TPO and the Challenger in the SAME subject, since the main TPO is automatically included in the Challenger.

While Challenger winners will be eligible for all the prizes of TPO, as recognition of subject expertise, there are also additional prizes exclusively for TPO Challenger – including a Rs. 1 lakh cash award for the topper of each of the three Challenger tracks, inclusion of the top three ranks of each of the Challenger tracks in the co-authoring of the book, and so on.
