Overview

CENTA Teaching Professionals’ Olympiad (TPO) is a first-of-its-kind national competition to reward, recognize and celebrate teachers and also the first step towards the CENTA Certificates. Now in its third year, TPO comes to Dubai with its first International center, CENTA Teaching Professionals' Olympiad TPO 2017 will be held on December 9th, 2018 (Saturday) in three time slots.

CENTA Standards

TPO 2018 is based on the Centre for Teacher Accreditation (CENTA) Standards, a set of well-defined competencies for teachers. TPO will cover a subset of the CENTA Standards and candidates can go through the practical assessment post the TPO to attain the full CENTA Certificates.

Centre for Teacher Accreditation (CENTA) offers Level 1, 2 and 3 Certificates for new, experienced and senior teachers respectively, aiming to create a career path and opportunities for teachers, and serving as a pointer for schools in their recruiting and professional development efforts. TPO is common for teachers of all experience levels.

Formats, Subjects, Syllabus

Format:

  • Two-hour, multiple choice test, no negative marking.
  • Competencies tested are based on the Centre for Teacher Accreditation (CENTA) Standards.
  • Computer-based test, but with simple interface which does not require advanced knowledge of computers.
  • Three sections, no section-wise time limit, questions could have been attempted in any order.

  • The first section differes based on the subject chosen.
  • 14 subjects options for TPO 2018
    1. Primary (includes English, Maths and EVS)
    2. Middle School English
    3. Middle School Maths
    4. Middle School Science
    5. Secondary School English
    6. Secondary School Maths
    7. Secondary School Physics
    8. Secondary School Chemistry
    9. Secondary School Biology
    10. Senior Secondary School English
    11. Senior Secondary School Maths
    12. Senior Secondary School Physics
    13. Senior Secondary School Chemistry
    14. Senior Secondary School Biology
  • A candidate could participate in more than one subject track (maximum of 3).
  • Candidates registering for more than one test track had to take Section 1, 2 and 3 for only ONE of the subject tracks and ONLY Section 1 for the others.

*Please note that the subject(s) participants choose for TPO may or may not be their current subject; it is entirely their choice.

TPO Challenger

What is Challenger and in which subject track was it offered?

  • An in-depth test of subject expertise, meant for teachers who have deep interest in their subject.
  • TPO Challenger 2017 was offered in three subject tracks:
    1. Middle School English Challenger
    2. Middle School Mathematics Challenger
    3. Middle School Science Challenger

How long was the Challenger for?

TPO Challenger was a 3 hour 30 minutes test.

1:30 P.M. to 3:30 P.M. GST Same test as the regular TPO in the chosen subject track
3:30 P.M. to 3:45 P.M. GST Break
3:45 P.M. to 5:15 P.M. GST In-depth test for Challenger participants

PLEASE NOTE registration was not required for both the main TPO and the Challenger in the SAME subject, since the main TPO was automatically included in the Challenger.

Date, Time Slots, Fees

Date: CENTA Teaching Professionals’ Olympiad (TPO) 2018 will be held on December 8th (Saturday).

Time Slots for TPO:

  • 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM GST
  • 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM GST
  • 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM GST

* However, some of the Subject Tracks may not have been available in all the time slots (details in the registration form).

Fees:
